World Cup 2018: Russian Women Dress Up As Brides And Play Football In Russia To Promote It

FIFA World Cup fever is currently high in the world and fans are going crazy with the unexpected match results. Argentina and Portugal have already been knocked out on the first day of the round of 16 by France and Uruguay respectively.

France beat Lionel Messi-led Argentina 4-3 in the last-16 opener while Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Uruguay hours later.

The host Russia is trying best to keep their guests entertained and motivated for the sport. Even women are leaving no stone unturned to show their craze for football in Russia with fans in Kazan warming up to the knockout stage with an unusual football match played by women while wearing bridal dresses.

Wearing floor-length white dresses and running shoes, the women split up into teams of five and played 15-minute halves on gravel in front of a small crowd.

"We had a nice appearance but it wasn't very comfortable," said Gulnaz Sharipova, a player on the winning team who had never played soccer before. "It's not only a man's game," said Maryana Raznogorskaya, the team's goalkeeper. "The most important thing is friendship and solidarity."

The winning team was also awarded a replica of the World Cup trophy, made out of flowers.

Russia is hosting the football World Cup for the first time, holding matches in 11 cities. As the top two players Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are out of the world cup, people have surely become more curious on who will lift the world cup now.
