Vishwas Kini aka Bhandari in Veere Di Wedding is getting the attention from the audience and becoming everyone’s favourite. Post Veere Di Wedding release, people are going gaga over his acting of a typical Delhi boy. The film obviously talks about women and their issues. Here's in an interview, the man himself revealed what Veere Di Wedding did for him.
Vishwas told that people are sending direct messages to Instagram and telling about his performance and said, "Amazing, people are loving it. My Instagram is full. (Laughs) People from Delhi are sending me messages saying aise thodei hote hai Delhi ke ladke. You have overdone it. Tum zyada hi kar rahe ho, zyada hi leechad ban gaye ho. There are also people on Instagram who are saying that’s exactly how Delhi guys are".
When Kini was asked about any particular compliment that he remembered he answered, "I have been getting a lot of compliments for my smile. Most of the reactions were, "We don’t like him" initially but as the film ends, they are like, "We don’t know why we like him". Standing out in the film like VDW which is women eccentric Kini had done justice to his character as well his presence in the movie.
When Kini was asked about whether he did any homework for the film he talked about an incident and told, "So ek bar maine Uber Pool le liya. Ek ladka baitha tha banyan pehenke , bade bade baal. Woh baitha aur usne phone milaya apne kisi dost ko aur batana shuru ho gaya ki kitni crore ki jaydad hai, ye gaadi idhar woh udhar hai. Maine apne phone ka recorder on kar liya. Usse ek Delhi ka banda kaise sochta hai woh kaafi had tak pata chala. Challenge ye tha ki logo ko acha bhi lagna chahiye".
Kini also said that he choose this shady character for his debut film because he believes that a character should be full of life with lots of different aspects and should be flawed and he really liked his character.
Kini revealed Sonam doesn’t rehearse. She doesn’t like to rehearse. She likes to be spontaneous. Ekdum se naya kuch mil jaye… she likes to be spontaneous.
Veere Di Wedding has taken a great opening and is getting good numbers at the box office. How does it feel to see your first film do so well?
I am very very grateful and happy. It’s a gift from the universe. Also, I am very happy for a subject like Veere… doing so well. I am happy that Rhea (Kapoor) is getting what she deserves. It’s not an easy story to bank on. Rhea stood by it. The women of 21st century have not been portrayed the way they are on big screen till now. Women are open, independent. Finally, Rhea and Ekta have come out for the 21st century girls without cutting anything. I am getting fan mails from women watching this film in Amsterdam, Dubai, Netherlands and all over the world. They are loving it.
Veere Di Wedding is a women-centric film. Did you ever feel you might get overshadowed by them?
I wanted a film in which I can show that I am good actor. I deserve more work. I am not so bothered with the screen time. If you are a strong performer, the screen time hardly matters. People watched the film, went home, googled me, found me on Instagram and messaged me that they have liked my work. That’s a big achievement!
When Kini was asked "Do you know of any Bhandari in real life?" He said, "A lot of them. A lot of these Bhandaris, you know, want to be actors. So they will come to Mumbai. In Mumbai, there are many Delhi Bhandaris who want to be actors. They come to a gym like they are going to a party. I love Bhandari. When I started preparing for the role, I realised that there is a Bhandari in me too. Every man has a Bhandari in them. Sahi mauke pe nikalta hai. Good thing about Bhandari is he doesn’t have any inhibitions. He is who he is. Like Kareena is..she is who she is… she is a beautiful actress, proud of herself".
Signing off Kini also revealed his bucket list and said I want to work with everyone, Imtiaz Ali, Dibakar Banerjee, Aanand L Rai… I would like to work with everyone. I would love to work with Alia Bhatt.
