The Telecom Department has provided the green light for 5G technology trials in various locations across India

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced on Tuesday that Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) will conduct 5G technology and spectrum trials. According to the permission letter Each TSP will be required to perform trials in rural and semi-urban areas in addition to urban areas to ensure that the benefits of 5G technology are felt across the country and not only in urban areas.

The trials are currently scheduled to last six months, with two months included for equipment acquisition and setup.

Bharti Airtel Ltd., Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd., Vodafone Idea Ltd., and MTNL are among the applicant TSPs, according to the Ministry of Communications' official press release. Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, and C-DOT are among the original equipment manufacturers and technology suppliers that these TSPs have partnered with.

In addition Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd. will also run tests of its own proprietary technologies.
