The Superintendent of Police, Shamli in Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Kumar has defended his act of giving a foot massage to a Kanwar yatri. This happened after the video of the incident, which was taken at a naturopathy medical camp in Shamli, went viral on social media and internet.
Kumar, while commenting on it, said that he was invited to inaugurate a naturopathy camp in Shamli. After the inauguration, as a symbolic gesture, he massaged the feet of the tired Kanwar pilgrims at the camp.
SP Ajay also added that as police, it is their duty to ensure the safety of each person present and passing through the district and through the video, he would like to tell his fellow policemen that providing security is not enough even service is equally important. The police officer further stated that he wanted to have a good image of Shamli police in mind of every person passing through the district.
About Kanwar Yatra - The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage of the devotees of Lord Shiva. The devotees visit the holy shrines in Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch waters of River Ganga on foot. The holy annual event falls in the month of Saavan and it is one of the biggest of its kind pilgrimage in the nation. Though, the yatra has been mired with some issues in the past few years, especially over the conduct of the Kanwariyas but the devotees have not been stopped and so the yatra is still continuing.
