Renowned lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar criticized film director Shekhar Kapur, after the latter said that he was always in “fear of intellectuals” and the acceptance by them really felt like a snake bite.
This remark by Shekhar Kapur was quite enough to grab the attention of online users and Javed Akhtar was also one of them.
After seeing his comment, Javed slammed the director and suggested that he should see some good psychiatrist.
Shekhar Kapur said that he started his life as a refugee of partition and his parents gave everything so as to make life for their kids. He also said that his family was always in fear of "intellectuals".
He also said that the intellectuals really made him feel small and insignificant.
Kapur said that they acknowledged him only after his films were successful. They would suddenly embrace him after his successful movies. But the film maker said that he still fears them and the embrace of the intellectuals feels like a bite of a snake.
Javed Akhtar replied by asking him why he still feels that he is a refugee.
He also asked him to name the intellectuals who embraced him.
Kapur made his remark after 49 famous personalities wrote a letter to the Indian Prime Minister, mentioning that the statement ‘Jai Shri Ram’ has indeed become a war cry.
In his Tweet, Akhtar wrote, “What do you mean by still a refugee Does it mean that you feel like an outsider n not an Indian n you don’t feel that this is your motherland. If in India you are still a refugee where will you not feel like a refugee, In Pakistan? Cut this melodrama, you poor rich but lonely guy.”
Shekhar Kapur responded to Akhtar's tweet and said that once you are refugee, you will feel like being a gypsy.
But Kapur did not respond to any other tweets.
