Shattering National Record For 2nd Time, Hima Das Wins Silver In 400 M Event

Indian athlete Hima Das shattered the 400 m National Record for second time in two days as she clocked 50.59 seconds to win the silver at Asian Games 2018. It was India's first medal in women's 400m since Manjeet Kaur won a silver at 2006 Doha edition. Bahrain's Salwa Naser won the gold in a new Games record time 50.09 seconds.

Hima had qualified for the finals with a national record time 51.00 seconds on Saturday. She had shattered the 14 year old record set by Manjeet Kaur (51.05) in Chennai in 2004.

In Men's 400 M event, Muhammed Anas bagged a Silver too as he finished at 45.69 seconds. Hassan Abdalelah of Qatar won Gold by finishing in 44.89 seconds.

Anas Said, "I don't know what happened to me in the final. I could have run better but I am happy with silver."

He further said, "I had aimed for a medal at the Asian Games and I have achieved that. Abdalelah won easily. I will see video to analyse what went wrong."

Another Indian in the women's 400m final, Nirmala Sheoran finished fourth in 52.96 sec.

Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal  settled for bronze after a 17-21, 14-21 loss to world No.1 Tai Tzu in the women's singles semi-final.

Till now, India has won 36 medals at Asian Games 2018 out of which 7 are Gold, 10 Silver and 19 bronze. China is leading at Number 1 position with 176 medals in its kitty which comprises of 78 Gold, 60 Silver, and 38 bronze medals.
