Sharad Kumar not happy with Kejriwal, says he has no regards for athletes who bring laurels for the country

Sharad Kumar beats all the odds to win an elusive gold medal in men's high jump T 24/63 category at the Asian Para Games. It is a prestigious moment for the country. Sharad registered himself with a record-breaking jump of 1.90m. With his outstanding jump, he stood tall on the top of the podium in Indonesia. His second successive gold at the games failed to get him enough recognition from the Arvind-Kejriwal. He criticized Arvind Kejriwal-led government for the lack of support.

The gold medalist Sharad, who hails from Bihar, suffered from paralysis in his left leg at the age of two after being administered a spurious polio medicine at the local eradication drive.

He has been a former world number one. He has completed his schooling from St. Paul's School in Darjeeling, he moved to Delhi for further studies and continued training in the national capital. After his severe medical condition at the tender age of two, he never lost his heart. He continued with his aim of becoming a Para high jumper and made his debut for India at the 2010 Asian Para Games.

Sharad went through a lot of hurdles to reach on the top of the podium. He criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Delhi Government for the lack of support. He also stated that the Delhi Government has no regards for athletes.

"Kejriwal and his ministers have no regards for their athletes who bring laurels for the country. Forget financial rewards, there is no word of appreciation from anyone in power. I’ve been trying to meet Kejriwal and other ministers to request for rewards that I rightfully deserve but there has only been delays and nothing else," he told Times Now.

"There is a reason why all athletes want to play for Haryana..because there is career security there..if there is an option or choice I’d love to play for Haryana. I’ve written many e-mails, went and met them but there has been no response - it really affects our training and preparations especially when we are looking at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics," he added.

Apart from this, another wrestler Divya Kakran, who hails from Delhi has also criticized Kejriwal government for failing to recognize her achievements. She had won a bronze medal at the Asian Games 2018 in the freestyle 69 kg event. She also revealed that she tried meeting Kejriwal for financial help but to no avail as she never received any kind of support.
