Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has been the UNICEF goodwill ambassador for some time and recently, she has been under criticism for her tweet that read "jai hind."
Her tweet came after India retaliated on the trepidation camps in Pak-occupied-Kashmir. But, UN has stated that Priyanka Chopra has the right to speak in her personal capacity of various issues concerning her.
As per Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, if the UNICEF goodwill ambassador speaks in their own personal capacity, they will be able to retain to speak out about the matters that interest or concerns them.
He also said that their personal views and actions might not be necessarily related to UNICEF. But, when such goodwill ambassadors speak on behalf of UNICEF, they need to adhere to the evidence-based impartial positions of UNICEF.
As per Stephane, the goodwill ambassadors of UNICEF are very much prominent individuals who have indeed agreed to volunteer their time and public profile to promote the rights of children.
After her tweet, Priyanka Chopra was under heavy criticism, especially from the Pakistan based users.
There was a huge cry from different places to drop Priyanka Chopra as the peace ambassador of UNICEF. There were also online petitions that demanded her ouster from her current position with UNICEF. Thousands of signatures were also gathered through the online petitions.
Pakistan had also heavily criticized Priyanka Chopra after India withdrew the special status of Kashmir.
Pakistan's human rights minister Shireen Mazari said that Priyanka Chopra has showcased a support for confrontation, which includes a nuclear war. Priyanka Chopra did not get distracted by these actions and she still remains focused in her life.
But Priyanka Chopra has got immense support from various people and celebrities through various social media channels. Actors such as Ayushmann Khurrana, Anupria Goenka, Kangana Ranaut were some of the stars who supported Priyanka.
