PV Sindhu’s Father Behind Her For Becoming a World Champion

PV Sindhu, the popular Indian badminton player recently won 5 medals at the World Championship. She is the second woman after Zhang Ning to win several medals at the World Championships. Besides this, the Indian badminton player secured 13th rank in the Forbes list of Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2019. It is true that men dominate women in different fields across the nation. However, being a woman athlete, she became a role model for women outside in society.

We have some popular female athletes in India such as Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu making the nation proud of them. With utmost hard work and the best support from family and friends, the athletes like PV Sindhu could reach certain heights globally. It has truly become possible for Sindhu as she received immense support from her father PV Ramana. That particular support rendered her a firm belief that she can get anything if she sets it on her eyes.

Her father Ramana was very strict to her at the time of her training and practice. As a result, she turned out to become a World Champion. Her father Ramana says, 'I always believed that she would conquer the world. Today, she made me very proud. I had tears in my eyes. She missed the gold very narrowly twice but today she was on top from the first point.'

After Sindhu winning Olympic silver medal, JBS Vidyadhar - a former India doubles player explained the way he struggled a lot in order to make her a world-class player. He said, 'Waking up every day at 3 AM and taking Sindhu for training close to 12 years is not a joke. From Marredpally her father used to drop and pick her up from Gopichand’s Academy at Gachibowli, driving 60-kilometer twice a day.'

Apart from her father, her mother's forfeit also play major role behind PV Sindhu becoming a world-fame badminton player. During the State tournaments and national events in Nellore, Ravulapalem, Bhimavaram, Chirala, and Vijayawada, he used to follow his daughter like a shadow. His wife Vijayalakshmi took voluntary retirement from the Railways in order to take the best care of her daughter's career. The success of Sindhu has become possible only because of her parents and their relinquishes.
