The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), which is working on the Purvanchal Expressway project, has tweeted that the construction work for the 354 km long expressway is going on in full swing. The Purvanchal Expressway is the longest in the country. It will mark its starting point from Chand Sarai in District Lucknow and will end at Haidaria in District Ghazipur.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this project last year. However, earlier in December 2016, the foundation stone was laid by Uttar Pradesh then CM Akhilesh Yadav. At that time not even half of the land was acquired by the authorities. After the Modi government took over, the tender that was given for the expressway project was cancelled claiming lack of land. However it was later revived.
The Purvanchal Expressway will also be linked with Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh through a separate link road. Once the project starts the expressway will provide connectivity to 9 districts of Uttar Pradesh namely, Lucknow, Amethi, Azamagarh, Ghazipur, Faizabad, Mau, Ambedkarnagar, Barabanki and Sultanpur.
Purvanchal Expressway work in progress
The expressway will also link them to the national capital via 165 km long Agra-Greater Noida Yamuna Expressway as well as 302 km long Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Once the Purvanchal Expressway opens the travel time will be likely reduced to four-and-a-half to five hours. Other than reducing the travel time there are many benefits that the project offers such as control in pollution, fuel saving, reduction in accidents etc. The expressway will be expandable to eight lanes.
This new expressway will link the eastern boundary to the western boundary of the state resulting in the overall development of the state. The expressway will help the citizens reach their destinations in very fewer time than earlier, which will be of great benefit further. As the expressway will be linked to the Varanasi in UP through a separate link road, it will help the travelers make an easy journey. This entire project brings in huge development to the state.
