Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor is currently in headlines for two reasons. One, for his upcoming film 'Sanju', and secondly for his love affair with Alia Bhatt. Talking about his professional life, Ranbir Kapoor is currently busy promoting 'Sanju' which is scheduled for release on 29 June 2018. The film is based on the controversial life of Sanjay Dutt.
Ranbir Kapoor has brought the character of Sanjay to life in the film, leaving the fans totally amazed. Even his own father Rishi Kapoor couldn't believe that it was Ranbir and not Sanjay Dutt himself in the film.
In an interview with Telegraph, Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra expressed how he did not want Ranbir Kapoor, but Padmaavat actor Ranveer Singh to play Sanjay Dutt. It was Rajkumar Hirani who convinced him that Ranbir was fit for the role. Vinod said, “When he told me about Ranbir, I wasn’t happy at all. I thought someone else, like Ranveer Singh, could play this role much better. I thought Ranveer had the flamboyance, the emotional depth as well as the ability to change himself completely to play Sanjay Dutt. But Raju was adamant that Ranbir would be perfect. And when we started shooting and Ranbir became Sanjay Dutt, I had to kind of eat my words.”
He further said that he initially thought that making a film based on Sanjay's life was a bad idea and he had initially laughed it off when Hirani first presented the idea. Chopra says, “When he told me, I was like, ‘What’s there in Sanjay Dutt’s life that merits being made into a film?! It’s better you make a film on my life… how I left Kashmir as a young boy and struggled when I came to Bombay.’ (Laughs) I thought Raju and Abhijat (Joshi, Sanju’s co-writer) had lost their minds!"
It was later, when Hirani narrated the whole story to him, he got convinced.
