In the previous year, Manoj was honored with Padma Shri. The actor recalled some of his struggles he confronted in his career at the time of building his career. He said, 'My actual struggle started in the 1990s when I thought to branch out to films from the theatre. The challenge came because I was tagged as a character actor at a young age and I wasn’t a star kid that I could get a film easily.'
He then added, 'I used to visit studios with my photoshoot. They used to see it and then keep it aside. Mujhe pata tha ki jis Tarah se unhone photos liye hain, lagta Nahi yeh Mujhe jaldi kaam denge. There was a time when the director took the pictures and put them in the dustbin in front of me.'
That particular incident showed a massive impact on the actor. He considered it as a humiliation for being an artist in the film industry. As he couldn't afford the photograph charges, he just went for a shot and let them decide whether to select him or not.

Speaking about the professional front, the actor is currently playing the role as a BJP Leader Amit Shah in the controversial biopic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
