A couple from Pennsylvania went on a spending spree after one of the bank deposited USD 120,000 by mistake into their account. The amount equals around RS 85,49,700 and as per the police officials, the couple is headed to trial.
The State Police said that the couple Robert and Tiffany Williams from Montoursville spend majority of the amount on various items such as SUV, a race car, two four wheeler and also a camper.
The state police revealed that the couple also paid the bills and gave USD 15,000 for their friends. The bank that deposited the amount accidentally into the couple’s account was BB&T bank and they contacted the couple on June 20th after realizing the big error.
The bank told the couple that they need to refund the funds and they are solely responsible for the same. But, the couple failed to repay the money and thereafter legal action was taken by the bank authorities.
The couple now faces felony burglary charges. The couple will find it really difficult to pay such huge money and the other thing is that they have spent almost the whole amount on shopping. This has really back fired the couple and they never expected that they will be asked to refund the amount by the bank authorities. The couple arrived at the court on Monday and Robert Williams said that they took some bad legal advice and that didn't go well in the end.
As per various reports, no trial date has been set so far. Anyhow, the couple now fears that they might face huge punishment and penalty as they do not have enough income and sources to repay the fund. This is not the first time that any bank has deposited fund into an account by chance and a lot of cases have been reported from different parts of the world in the past.
