Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman lost his mother, Kareem Begum on Monday, December 28, 2020. According to many media reports, AR Rahman's mother, Kareem Begum had been keeping unwell for sometime. She was in Chennai when she passed away.
To pay tribute to his mother, AR Rahman took to his Twitter handle and shared a picture of her. While the music composer didn't add any text or caption to the picture, all his fans, colleagues and friends were seen expressing their condolences to him and his family.
We also witnessed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami and DMK President M K Stalin paying their tribute to Kareem Begum. Meanhwile, singer Harshdeep Kaur wrote, "Dear Sir.. deeply saddened by your loss.. may god give you strength. Remembering Amma’s wonderful and gentle soul. She will forever remain in our hearts."
Shekhar Kapur as well shared his condolences by tweeting "Our heart is broken, I know. But your mother left you with an inner strength , an inner resilience and belief .. that I have seen and admired for long. Stay strong, my friend."
In fact stars like director Mohan Raja, producer Dr Dhananjayan, music composers Shreya Ghoshal, Thaman and many others expressed grief on social media.
Sometime back, in an interview Rahman had talked about how his mother was pivotal in his success. He had also said that his popular patriotic song Maa Tujhe Salaam was actually written for his mother.
He said "I had this in my mind on how to crack it because I was very objective about it, thinking whether patriotism will work or not. So, I was like, forget about the country, let’s do it as a personal song -- like singing a song for one’s mother. That’s how it was created." AR Rahman recently gave music to Sushant Singh Rajput’s final film, Dil Bechara.
