The Indian boxer made entry to the final as the sturdy favorite and thrashed her challenger April Franks from Australia with a score of 5-0. From the first stage of the match itself, the Olympic silver medalist had asserted her domination over her opponent and she once more showcased that she is one of the top notch boxers all over the world.
The 36 year old Indian pugilist had also bagged the gold honor at the India Open boxing contest in the month of May, but decided to opt out of the Asian championships so as to augment her chances for the Olympic qualification.
She came into President's Gold Cup with the sole aim of testing herself and acquires the much required bouts under the belt ahead of the forthcoming world championships.
Mary Kom had claimed her sixth world title last year in the national capital and is keenly seeking a qualification towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the World championships that will be held in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
