On Thursday, a 74-year-old woman become the oldest-ever to give birth as she delivered twins at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur town. At Ahalya Nursing Home, Mangayamma conceived through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) process to deliver twin babies. A four doctor’s team performed the caesarean operation to make it possible.
Umashankar headed the team of doctors. He said both the mother and the babies were doing well. After surgery, he also called it a medical miracle. He claimed that Mangayamma has become the oldest woman in the world to give birth and that too to twin babies.
Before this, a 70-year-old woman name Daljinder Kaur was considered to be the oldest woman in the world to give birth to a baby. Haryana’s Kaur delivered a baby boy in 2016 following an IVF process.
Mangayamma hails from Nelapartipadu in East Godavari district. She was childless after 54 years of marriage. Along with her husband Y. Raja Rao, she had approached the IVF experts at the nursing home late last year, who decided to help the duo.
After delivery, Mangayamma told reporters that she is very happy. She also showed gratefulness to God saying that he has answered their prayers. Her husband Raja Rao and other family members celebrated the moment by distributing sweets. Umashankar said they went ahead with the process after a team of doctors conducted various tests and found that she is fit to become pregnant. Doctors said that for a few days, both the mother and the babies would be under observation.
