A 32-year-old Ugandan woman has decided to marry herself after getting tired of her family's constant lecturing on marriage. Lulu Jemimah is an Oxford University student from Uganda and tied the knot to herself at Quepasa Bar, Kampala, Uganda on August 27.
Lulu was getting a lot of pressure from her parents to get married. So, Jemimah put on a white gown and walked down the aisle in traditional wedding march and even gave a speech to her guests explaining lack of groom. Getting tired of this pressure she staged a fake wedding where she is reported to have formally invited her nearest friends.
She said, "I sent the invitations out and I immediately received phone calls asking who the groom was. I told people it was a surprise."
Her parents did not attend the ceremony but later she explained everything about what she is doing. Her parents did not like what she did whereas, she is being praised on all the social media platforms.
She said, "My father wrote my wedding speech when I turned 16. Every birthday my mother prayed me and in recent years this has included a plea for a good husband."
Earlier, Lulu worked as a freelance journalist at Nation Media Group and a communications consultant for the International Organisation for Migration. Currently, Lulu is pursuing masters in creative writing. She revealed that marriage was something that was the last thing on her mind. She says that she has a strong passion in life and she is committed to achieving her goals. But from a long time, her family asked her on a regular note that when is she planning to get married - which is very important back in Uganda.
The next day after getting married to herself, she went to see her mother and explained her decision to her. Her mother was totally confused and hurt by her decision. Moreover, her father still doesn't know what to say about the whole thing.
