India has thrashed West Indies during their recent cricket tour and India had a clean sweep in the test series, which they won by 2-0. Overall, India had a great tour this time and also won the ODI and T20Is as well and really had the upper hand in all three formats of the game.
But one area where India failed is in finding the right combination of openers in test. In all the innings, India opening pair was not able to go well and put a good partnership on board. Former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly has said that Rohit Sharma should be given an opportunity at the opening slot.
As per Ganguly, Mayank Agarwal looks good for the position, but the bastman needs to be given more opportunities at the top. At the same time KL Rahul is not at all consistent at the top and has failed very often. This really brings around a great opening at the top order and there are many other players who can embark on the situation and make the most out of it.
Before the Indian team's Caribbean tour started, Ganguly had suggested that Rohit Sharma should be given an opportunity at the top order after his massive success in the recently held world cup cricket in England. After the world cup campaign, Rohit was bursting with confidence and he might have been a great option in the opening slot. In the world cup championship Rohit Sharma scored 648 runs which included 5 spectacular centuries.
Ganguly also said the West Indies team has a lot of talent, but they have a long way to go in terms of applying themselves. He also praised the Indian bowlers, who split fire on the Caribbean pitches. There was also special praise for the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
