Amid the ongoing violent clash between Israel and Gaza in Jerusalem, the Israeli army accused Palestinian militants of firing over 1000 rockets directed towards Israel to counter the escalating unrest in the city.
Army spokesperson Jonathan Conricus said to media on Wednesday that at around 6pm from Monday the Hamas Islamist launched rockets towards Jerusalem. In the beginning, 850 rockets were launched by army groups in Gaza have intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome or defense system. Later, another 200 rockets landed inside Gaza.
Apart from this, an anti-tank missile has also been fired from the North of Gaza strip targeting Israel. There have been continuous sirens of danger around Netiv Ha'asara and Gaza border indicating warning for in coming violence and fire.
Thiry-five Palestinians including 10 children and five Israelis have been killed in the rocket fire. Many have been injured severely in the clashes. Operation 'The Guardian of the Walls' undertaken by the Israel's military in Gaza includes air strikes on the blockaded strip.
The violence began on May 7 in Jerusalem between Palestinian protestors and Israeli police in which hundreds were injured. The people were protesting against the eviction of Palestinian families in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shiekh Jarrah. Later on May 10, Israeli armed forces forged into Al-Aqsa mosque during the Jerusalem Day march . Hamas issued an ultimatum to the Israeli troops to stand down but in vain.
Israeli forces demolished a 12 storey building in the Gaza city for 'military purposes' on Tuesday. A state of emergency was declared in the city of Lod in Israel due to the surging Arab clashes.
"This is the first time we have seen local residents using weapons, opening fires, and our response has also been to use live fire to prevent anyone from being killed," said a local police officer.
The entire international community have shown 'serious concerns' about the issue. The opposition have blamed Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his negligence to avoid the eruption. Yamin head Naftali Bennett attacked Netanyahu's party saying , "a party that's failing from running a country, whose negligence leads it from failure to disaster."
