Indian Women’s Kabaddi Team Settles For Silver Medal At Asian Games 2018 In Indonesia

India is a sports-loving country. The days when only cricket was watched and appreciated are long gone back and now all the sports are getting attention with help of social media. With passing time and with the contribution of players like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Sunil Chhetri, etc the awareness about sports like Badminton, Hockey, Tennis, and Football are increasing day by day.

The 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang are making headlines in India as Indian athletes continue to make India proud by winning medals in various sports.

In Women's Kabbadi finals, the two-time defending champions, India was shocked 24-27 in a thrilling final as the firm favourites settled for silver.

Payel and Sonali were effective with their raids while the defenders also handled the tackles well as the Indians raced to a 7-3 lead. Azadeh touched out Ritu and Manpreet and captain Payel was caught by the Iranian defenders as India led 13-11 at the of the first half.

Iran scored six points in a row to race to a 17-13 lead with an all out.

With just two minutes to go, Sakshi Kumari earned two points with a successful raid to make it 24-25 but Iranians held their nerves to prevail.

At Asian Games, India participated in 34 sports out of the total 40. There are at least 312 men and 258 women athletes from India who participated in the sporting extravaganza. India won 57 medals at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea that included 37 bronze, 9 silver, and 11 gold medals.
