A Guy Single-handedly Planted 1400 Acres Of Forest To Save His Barren Island

An Assamese man named Jadav Payeng who is now also known as the ‘Forest Man of India’, single-handedly planted nearly 1400 acres of forest to save his island, Mulai Kathon.

As per Aljazeera cover story on him, he had a dram back in 1979 on his island which was barren and it all started from there. And now, Jadav has come a long way. What more triggered him to take extra efforts to save the environment is all the loss caused by the floods that he witnessed on his island while growing up.

And he knew that a major reason was the depleting forest cover and so he took upon himself to protect, by planting one tree at a time. Well, today, Jadav's years of efforts have paid off and he named the forest Mulai Kathon and it covers an extraordinary 1,360 acres! Yes, you heard it right!

The beautiful forest is now a home for animals like Bengal tigers, rhinoceroses and vultures as well as 115 elephants. Jadav's main aim is to save the forest till he is alive from all the ones who are trying to destroy it.

Jadav is truly an inspiration to many and we hope we witness more such people who will take such steps to make a change and also protect the environment.
