The Google I/O held in the year 2018 gave information about Augmented Reality (AR). During that time it was told how AR will work for Google Maps. Through this new feature, it has been found out how users will be able to use maps through the camera. A demo shows how the advanced navigation system will navigate users to businesses and shops via direct or pop-up.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, the demo featured the first version of Google Maps with augmented reality. However, the new feature is not significantly different from the old version which was shown at Google's May 2018 Developer Conference. The new feature will have information on maps on half the screen and real-world surrounds on half. Rachel Inman, who leads Maps's UX design, says that the design of the app has been made so that users can use it more and find new places.
During the Google I/O conference last year, the company said that Google Maps will not only make it easier for you to get around. But, you will also now get information about the places around you. It will show the match as per your choice. This feature will work on machine learning. By shortlisting your favorite places, you will be able to share with your friends also. Real-time voting can be done by selecting the place. This feature will be available this year.
By opening the camera, you will be able to see the surrounding places and paths. The company introduced visual positioning system. For example- the way we remember any place or banner or shop etc. nearby to remember a place or a road. Similarly, Google will also remember the visual things from this system.
As per the report, the app does not allow the user to rely on the camera for too long but will prompt users to put it down after a while. The we will see regular Google Maps. The idea is to help users with short-term directions.
This new feature of Google will make navigation much easier than before. Earlier, Google Maps recently introduced 'public transport' and 'cab' modes. Google recently introduced an update to share the ETA (time taken) for its live location and bus-train journey. After this, you were able to share the live location of your bus and train journey. Apart from this, how much time you will take in the journey, you can also share this information with your favorite people. You can share information not only on Google contacts but also on third party apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. To share, open Google Map, go to the Transit tab and click on the share trip option below. There you will see a list for sharing from where you can also choose Messenger and WhatsApp.
