On Global Parameters, India Has Come A Long Way In 72 Years After Independence

India is a country of love and peace. People from various states live together with love and harmony. As the country celebrates its Independence Day, here are some achievements of India and Indians since the independence.

India won the Cricket World Cup for the first time, 25th June 1983. It was India's first cricket World Cup win. In the final match, they defeated West Indies who were considered the most fearsome team in the world at that time.

India sent a satellite to the moon with Chandrayan 1. The first lunar probe was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation in October 2008 and operated until August 2009.

India used to import food grains till the 1960s but now it exports a lot of food grain.

India which comprises 17 per cent of world population saw polio being eradicated from the country and life expectancy grow to 68.89 years which was only 32 years at the time of independence.

The Mars Orbiter Mission, also called Mangalyaan is a space probe orbiting Mars that was launched on 5 November 2013 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The Mangalyaan mission was budgeted at 4.5bn rupees ($74m), which, by Western standards, is staggeringly cheap.

India is the world's largest milk producer, with 18per cent of global production.

India is the largest producer of films in the world and second oldest film industry in the world.

India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni is ranked 23rd in the list of world's highest-paid athletes 2015. He is the only cricketer to win all three ICC tournaments -  the World T20 (2007), World Cup (2011) and the Champions Trophy (2013).

India has 5600 different newspapers and 3500 different magazines with approximately 120 million readers every day.

As of 2018, Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani is ranked 19th globally in the rich list. He also surpassed China's Jack Ma to become Asia's richest businessman this year.

Indian Actor Shah Rukh Khan continues as World's second richest actor and World's biggest movie star, according to Forbes.
