Most of them considered Jonty Rhodes would be the new fielding coach of Indian cricket team at the time of applying for the post. There were several obvious reasons behind it. In the whole world, we have seen a rare fielder like Rhodes. Rhodes is one of the finest former fielders that people have witnessed in cricket ever. In actual fact, Rhodes had made his game in such a way that he is more into fielding than showing his batting skills.
Instead of choosing Rhodes, the senior selection panel of India re-appointed R. Sridhar as the field coach. Rhodes couldn't even secure the top three position during the interview. However, the decision taken by MSK Prasad-directed panel made everyone astonished. The Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly strived to explain the reason behind selecting Sridhar instead of Rhodes.
The reasons given by the legendary skipper made everyone think about the decision once again. He said that it would be easy for the players to communicate if it is an Indian coach. There were several candidates from overseas for various posts in India's backroom staff but none of them could get the chance. Sourav said, 'I think Sridhar has done a good job. The Indian fielding has been very good. You saw that in the World Cup with Ravindra Jadeja leading the pack.'
Ganguly further added, 'I am a big supporter of Indian coaches because communication is good, they understand the mindset. I am not saying that overseas coaches are different. At one stage, during the transition period in 2000s, we needed overseas coaches to guide young players. Now, I am extremely happy that our own home-bred coaches are given priority which is good because they have put in a lot of effort.'
Ganguly also opened up about appointing Vikram Rathour by replacing Sanjay Bangar as the batting coach. Speaking about Rathour, he is a hard-working player and his former teammate. Ganguly wished him for getting the new job. Drop your opinions and thoughts about the selection of Indian cricket fielding coach in the below comments section.
