rmer Finance Minister and senior BJP leader ArunJaitley took the last breathe on Saturday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after a long illness. He breathed his last at 12:07 in the noon. Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS a few days ago due to difficulty in breathing. Jaitley was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here on August 9 after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness.
For the past few days, his position was being said to be stable. Jaitley was suffering one health issue after another for a long time and to this, he wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi after the overwhelming victory of BJP in Lok Sabha elections, 2019 and urged him not to include him in the cabinet.
He was a lawyer by profession and had been an important part of PM Modi's cabinet during his first tenure as prime minister. He held the Finance and Defence portfolios.
AIIMS clinic also issued a statement after confirmation of Arun Jaitley last breath, "It is with profound grief that we inform about the Shri Arun Jaitley lost his life, Hon'ble Member of Parliament and former Finance Minister Government of India at 12:07 pm on August 24, 2019. Arun Jaitley was admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi on 09/08/2019 and was treated by a multidisciplinary team of senior Doctors."
"ArunJaitleyji served the nation in several capacities and he was an asset to the government and the party organisation. He always had a deep and clear understanding of the issues of the day. His knowledge and articulation won him several friends," Rajnath Singh tweeted.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and BJP chief Amit Shah along with political leaders like Mayawati, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Nitish Kumar and Yogi Adityanath visited him in clinic.
Mr. Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS for treatment in May 2019. He had undergone a renal transplant on May 14, 2018 at AIIMS with Railways Minister Piyush Goyal filling in for him in the Finance Ministry during that time.
