Asian Games 2018: PV Sindhu Qualifies For Badminton Finals, Saina Nehwal Settles For Bronze

Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal advanced to the women's singles semifinals at Asian Games 2018. It was a meek loss for Saina Nehwal at the semi-finals in the second set. She settled for bronze after a 17-21, 14-21 loss to world No.1 Tai Tzu in the women's singles semi-final.

However, PV Sindhu has qualified for the Badminton Finals after she widened her lead against Japan's Yamaguchi Akane 21-10 in the Women's Singles Semifinals.

Olympic and World Championship silver medalist Sindhu outwitted Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol 21-11, 16-21, 21-14, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Saina Nehwal dispatched Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon 21-18, 21-16 in the quarterfinal.

In women’s singles pre-quarterfinals, Sindhu zoomed to an 8-1 lead early on before Gregoria fought back to reduce the gap to 7-10. The Indian then unleashed a smash leaving the Indonesian stranded to enter the interval 11-8.

Power and accuracy in her strokes helped Sindhu to move to five match points with a body smash. The match then ended when the Indonesian went wide next.

Indian athlete Hima Das broke the 400 m National Record for second time in two days as she clocked 50.59 seconds to win the silver at Asian Games 2018.  Bahrain's Salwa Naser won the gold in a new Games record time 50.09 seconds.

In Men's 400 M event, Muhammed Anas bagged a Silver too as he finished at 45.69 seconds. Hassan Abdalelah of Qatar won Gold by finishing in 44.89 seconds.

Till now, India has won 36 medals at Asian Games 2018 out of which 7 are Gold, 10 Silver and 19 bronze.

India is eyeing for another Gold as PV Sindhu has reached the finals of Badminton.
