Asian Games 2018: Arpinder Singh Bags Gold For India In Men’s Triple Jump

Arpinder Singh bagged a Gold for India in Men's Triple Jump at the ongoing Asian Games 2018. He defeated Uzbekistan's Ruslan Kurbanov, who won the silver medal with a personal best jump of 16.62 metres. Chinese Cao Shuo won bronze who jumped 16.56 metres.

The 25-year-old Arpinder had a victorious jump of 16.77 metres. He had failed in his first attempt. However, in second jump he came out stronger with 16.58 m.  He jumped 16.08 in his fourth attempt. The Uzbek athlete Ruslan made attempts of 15.99, 16.43, 16.41 in his final three chances respectively.

Before, Arpinder, India witnessed its last champion  Mohinder Singh Gill in 1970 whose jump was 16.11 m.

AV Rakesh Babu, another Indian was sixth with a best attempt of 16.40 metres.

Till now, India has won a total of 54 medals at the ongoing Asian Games held in Jakarta. This includes 11 Gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze medals.

Swapna Barman has won a Gold in Heptathlon.

In Badminton, India won two medals. Sania Nehwal won bronze, and PV Sindhu won silver.

Today, India is also eyeing Gold in Men's Hockey. The semi-finals will be played today on 30th August in Jakarta, Indonesia where the Asian Games 2018 are being held. It will start at 4:00 PM (IST). ndia will now play against Malaysia in the semifinals who finished second in Pool B behind Pakistan.
