I Want An Army Man, Hopefully A Commando, Says Riya Of Naati Pinky Ki Lambi Story

Lucknow beauty Riya Shukla has bagged praises from her all sides when she played the role of Swara Bhaskar’s daughter in the movie Nil Battey Sannata. Riya, who was recently in Lucknow, took media people to her beloved hangout place i.e. the 1090 Crossing. The actress enjoyed her much loved tandoori chai and gave poses with a camel.

She said, “I wish I had the time to take a camel ride. This place is so cool with so many youngsters hanging out here. Also, the food that one gets here is so yummy. I love the combination of tandoori chai and Maggi. Evening mein toh yeh jagah aur bhi happening ho jati hai.”

When media people asked Riya, who dons the character of naati (dwarf) in Naati Pinky Ki Lambi Story, if she felt nervous on donning the role of a dwarf on screen, she responded, “When I heard about the show, the first thing that crossed my mind was that this word naati. I thought ab yeh naati word mere se jud jaayega.”

The Hichki actress said, “After that sab yahi sochenge ki she’s a dwarf although I am not a dwarf in real life. I want to further convey to the people that this isn’t a story of a dwarf but a girl of an average height. It is the basic mentality of people in our society to judge the qualities and weaknesses of a woman. Hum yeh dekh lete hain uska rang kaisa hai, uska kad kaisa hai, uska bol-chaal ka dhang kaisa hai. So in our show also, the family hasn’t come across many drawbacks in me so they pick the height and beat around it. The show is based on the fact that the tallest man in the family has married a girl who isn’t tall enough. The actual show made on the life of a dwarf was Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo which was telecast some years back. I am not a dwarf, nor do I play one.”

She added, “I don’t consider myself short at all. Despite the fact that I’m 5 feet something, I don’t like to wear heels at all. I’m a complete tomboy and love the height God has gifted me with. Eventually, it’s about having a good heart and being confident with whatever you’re blessed with.”

The actress disclosed that she never joined an acting school. She is of the view that the acting resides within person and one has to showcase his or her real self on reel too. “I clearly remember when I went on reality dance show Hindustan Ke Hunarbaaz, our judge Terence had told me that you’re meant to act on television. So I’d like to believe that it sort of registered in my mind somewhere. As far as acting is concerned, I just behave how I would in real life when a similar situation would arise,” said Riya.

Riya is also an expert classical dancer in Lucknow gharana. She said, “My guruji passed away recently but I’ve done many shows with kathak exponent Surabhi Singh. I really wish I could take kathak forward but since I’m fully committed to my current show, Naati Pinky ki Lambi Love Story, kathak has taken a back seat.”

When questioned on love, Riya stated, “I want an army man, hopefully a commando, height is obviously irrelevant. The guy should be loving and caring.”
