Alia Bhatt’s Raazi, a women-centric movie Reaches Rs 100-crore mark

Spy thriller Raazi directed by Meghna Gulzar has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.  It is an event of celebration for its producers, Junglee Pictures and Dharma Films. Raazi was made on a budget of Rs 37 crores and was released in approximately 1,250 theatres across India on May 11. Though it is not a huge achievement to the production to cross the 109- crore mark, it is important for various reasons.

Raazi is a women-centric movie directed by another woman. The movie was released after her much-appreciated movie Talvar back in 2015.  She managed to win the accolades for her directorial skills with Raazi. However, most of the film's success credit needs to be given to none other than the female lead, Alia Bhatt. She is a super talented actress and time and again is proving that. She not only won the hearts of the audience but also the critics with her tremendous performances.

The factors that benefited Raazi

Alia's hit list include Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014), 2 States (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017).  In each of the three movies, Alia has got a major role to play in the success of the flicks. Her performance in Highway is of great worth as an actress.  At the starting of the carrier itself, she managed to get solo heroine projects, which itself is a big achievement.

Though Bollywood has reached new heights, there are still few filmmakers who believe that heroines cannot pull off the project on their shoulders. The belief that women do not have the ability to command an opening.

The other factors that helped the movie reach out to the crowds are the soft patriotism. Raazi is a book-to-film adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat, which is set before the second India-Pakistan war of 1971.

Gulzar and Bhatt tried their best to assert that Raazi isn’t anti-Pakistani and that the characters behave the way they do because of the impending war.   The director has made sure not to hurt anyone by handling the subject so tactically.

Sehmat, who hails from Pakistan marries off to a Pakistani Army officer on the request of her father.  She willingly takes up the risk of spying for her country by being at the side of her husband. She wonderfully performs her duty for the nation emerging as the ideal Indian citizen.

Super talented actress Kangana Ranaut showered praises on Alia for her performance in Raazi and said,“I have no words to express the performance of Alia in the film. She is so good in the film. I am going to send Alia a congratulatory message for her film. I think Alia is most definitely the undisputed queen. Its Alia’s world and we are just living in it.”
