Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold starrer Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Nikita Dutta is few steps away to cross the figure of Rs. 100 crore. The untold story of independent India's first Olympic gold win is just unstoppable at the box office.
As it has already crossed the figure of Rs. 70 crore at its 5th day and it is continuing to win at the box office. Well, as per the recent report, Gold has collected Rs 4.5 crore on Tuesday which takes it to the total of Rs 80 crore (approx). Well, there is definitely the audience divided into the biggest clash between Gold and John Abraham-starrer Satyameva Jayate, which also opened to a great response at the box office.
Film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote, “The period is done beautifully, and despite the predictable sports film tropes–underdogs coming up top, conflicts being resolved, last minute fortune reversals—the younger players keep up the tempo, with debutant Sunny Kaushal doing a stand-out job. It’s not as if Akshay isn’t fully there. He immerses himself in his role, playing the sad sack when things go awry, fooling his wife for some monetary handouts, always redeeming himself by keeping his love of the sport squarely in the center. But all this takes up much too much screen time, and takes the crucial focus away from the game and the players.”
However, recently the director talking about the challenges said, “It’s my first period film and my first sports film too. Also we’ve shot a lot in Northern England, which has the most unpredictable weather, so every hour the weather would change, we’d set up for a sunny shot and it would suddenly get cloudy. We’d setup for a cloudy shot and it would start raining. At times it got really stressful.”
