Aishwarya Rai Bachchan On Not Doing Padmaavat: Bhansali Couldn’t Get Khilji For Me

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali always comes with magnum opus. His films, whether it is Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Ram-Leela, Guzaarish, Bajirao Mastani or latest release Padmaavat, every film is a masterpiece in its own way. Also, the director repeats the actors he works in his films. As he worked with Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Priyanka Chopra in more than one film.

Also, the director worked with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in several movies from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to Guzaarish. Not only that, when Bhansali was working on the script of Bajirao Mastani, the speculation was rife that he wanted to make Bajirao Mastani with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. His dream to cast Salman and Aishwarya together could not complete due to their bitter split. Hence the film happened with Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

Recently, in an interview Aishwarya was asked about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali again and will she say ‘YES’ to his film, to this she said, “Bajirao Mastani also we were supposed to do together. He didn’t get the Bajirao for me. He didn’t get the Khilji for me; He wanted me to do Padmaavat, but could not get the Khilji for me, at the casting time. So, that’s how it didn’t happen. I would love to work together.”

She further said, “The person he saw to play Khilji with me playing Padmavati did not happen. So, at the end of the day, you need to see the casting. If the casting is not happening, then you know…sometimes, it doesn’t come together. The intention is always there to work together, but it didn’t happen. We both loved working with each other, so let’s see, whenever it is meant to be."

However, no matter Aishwarya was not in the Padmaavat. The film with star cast Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh proved superhit and did phenomenal business at the box office.

I wanted these actors and only these three actors. And I am so happy with the quality of performances they have given in my film.” The filmmaker had also said, “I’ve toiled over every moment of the film.”
