Many rivers in the country are being polluted since ages and now the work of keeping them clean under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is grabbing roots. One such river is Morna river in Maharashtra, it has been at the accepting end of waste materials for quite a long time until a gathering of individuals chose to clean the waterway and saved it from biting the dust.
The individuals of Akola area touched off a mass development and a cleanup drive to restore the Morna river.
Amazed by the energy and devotion of the individuals of Akola, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had even praised their efforts in 40th release of his radio show, Mann Ki Baat, "Mission Clean Morna River is a great activity, where individuals came together to clean the river," the Prime Minister had said.
The Clean Morna Mission was propelled in January 2018 and inside a half year, this mission made it to the Golden Book of World Records, a universal book of records, for the biggest open cooperation in waterway cleaning.
Morna waterway was once diminished to a waste dump because of perpetual trash dumping be that as it may, presently because of individuals' endeavors, clean water flows in it.
For quite a long time, each Saturday, individuals from the locale visited the Morna river voluntarily and devoted a couple of hours to expel trash including weeds, plastic, wild grass, and water hyacinths.
"The 173-kilometer-long Morna river, a noteworthy tributary of Purna waterway (a tributary of Tapti), is the fundamental water source for Akola locale, situated around 240 km from Nagpur," said a report by NDTV.
As indicated by area records, 19,300 water hyacinths and 8,440 plastic articles were expelled from the 'waterway turned-nullah'.
It's been a year and a half since the drive was started. Two sewage plants to treat the city's loss before it goes into the waterway are developed close to the river.
